Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neutron Scattering

Location: On-site at the hirify.global campus in Upton, NY, United States; travel required to national user facilities for experiments.

Salary: $75,000–$81,000 per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, education, and internal peer-group considerations.

What you will do

• Develop and plan neutron scattering experiments on quantum materials.
• Write proposals for experimental beam time.
• Perform neutron scattering experiments at national user facilities, including SNS and HFIR.
• Collect and analyze experimental data using appropriate programming and data-analysis tools.
• Collaborate with the Neutron Scattering group and the broader Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science community.
• Communicate findings through scientific publications and conference presentations.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field obtained before starting employment.
• Strong background in condensed-matter physics.
• Computing and programming proficiency for data analysis, using Python, IDL, Matlab, or a suitable alternative.
• Commitment to safe, ethical, and accountable work.
• Ability to work on-site at the BNL campus in Upton, NY and travel to national user facilities.
• Relevant postdoctoral and/or R&D experience after the Ph.D. must not exceed a combined total of five years, subject to stated exclusions.

Nice to have

• Experience with scattering and spectroscopy-based techniques.
• Experience studying structure and excitations in quantum materials.
• Knowledge of magnetism, lattice dynamics, or correlated-electron physics.
• Experience with crystal growth.
