Principal Database Architect (MySQL)

What you will do

• Define the data platform roadmap across on-premises legacy systems and cloud-native AWS solutions.
• Design high-availability and disaster-recovery architectures, including replication, failover, and cross-region redundancy.
• Lead major database migrations, upgrades, and platform consolidations.
• Implement backup and restore strategies, observability, and DBRE SLOs and SLIs.
• Enforce least-privilege access, PII protection, and SOC 2 controls.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and database change management while mentoring teams and aligning solutions with business and compliance needs.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or infrastructure roles, including 2+ years in a lead or architect capacity.
• Deep hands-on MySQL expertise, including Performance Schema, InnoDB internals, and replication management.
• Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises Linux environments, AWS services, and SOC environments.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, Bash or PowerShell, Terraform or CloudFormation, and CI/CD for database changes with audit trails.
• Experience with data warehousing, database modeling, and observability tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or NoSQL databases.
• AWS Certified Database – Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification.
