Database Architect (Oracle & PostgreSQL, Cloud Migration)

What you will do

• Own data-tier architecture across enterprise database migration and modernization programs, including assessment, target-state design, sequencing, risk, and effort.
• Architect Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations covering schema conversion, PL/SQL-to-PL/pgSQL strategy, data type and collation mismatches, query rewrites, and performance validation.
• Design low-downtime cutovers using CDC replication, dual-run and output-comparison approaches, rehearsals, go/no-go criteria, and rollback plans.
• Architect cloud database platforms covering sizing, high availability, failover, backup and recovery, encryption, observability, patching, and cost optimization.
• Lead client architecture sessions, support pre-sales and delivery planning, define managed-services runbooks, and build reusable migration assets.
• Use and evaluate agentic AI workflows for schema conversion, test generation, log and plan analysis, and documentation while verifying the results.

Requirements

• 10+ years of database engineering, administration, or data-platform experience, including several years in an architect or principal-level role.
• Deep Oracle expertise, including PL/SQL, partitioning, RMAN, Data Guard, AWR, ASH, execution plans, optimizer statistics, and SQL tuning.
• Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including PL/pgSQL, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, indexing, partitioning, autovacuum, replication, WAL, PITR, and production extensions.
• Demonstrated experience architecting Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations through production.
• Cloud infrastructure expertise, preferably AWS, including RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, Oracle on RDS or EC2, VPC, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and Performance Insights.
• Infrastructure-as-code and automation experience with Terraform or CloudFormation and Python, Bash, or PowerShell, plus strong technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• AWS Schema Conversion Tool, AWS DMS, ora2pg, or equivalent migration tooling experience.
• MSSQL, hybrid or private cloud, managed services, on-call, or 24/7 operational experience.
• Consulting or MSP experience with North American enterprise clients and scoping or estimation responsibilities.
• .NET data-access experience, compliance exposure, observability tooling, or Liquibase and Flyway experience.
• Oracle OCP, AWS Database Specialty, or AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification.
