Data Architect (Databricks)

Location: Remote (United States); no daily travel to an office is required.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end data platform architecture across ingestion, lakehouse and warehouse layers, transformation, modeling, and analytics delivery.
• Build and deploy pipelines, Spark and SQL transformations, data models, and production code alongside the team.
• Design Databricks or Microsoft Fabric lakehouse architectures with medallion layers, Delta tables, and semantic layers.
• Evaluate Databricks, Fabric, or combined solutions based on client workloads, licensing, skills, and cost.
• Implement governance and access control with Unity Catalog, Purview, or equivalent tools.
• Design ingestion from databases, SaaS applications, APIs, files, and legacy systems.

Requirements

• At least eight years of data engineering experience, including at least three years owning architecture and design decisions.
• Hands-on experience designing and building data platforms.
• Deep hands-on experience with Databricks or Microsoft Fabric, plus working knowledge of the other platform.
• Strong Spark and SQL skills, with solid Python or an equivalent production data language.
• Production experience with Delta Lake, medallion architecture, lakehouse patterns, dimensional modeling, and semantic modeling.
• Experience with Power BI, data governance, CI/CD, version control, and testing for data work.

Nice to have

• Azure Government or GCC High delivery experience.
• Unity Catalog or Purview implementation experience.
• Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Azure SQL experience.
• Consulting, client-facing, or regulated-environment delivery experience.
• Databricks or Microsoft certifications.
