Master Utilities Maintenance Technician

Location: College Station, Texas, United States; onsite. Occasional evening, night, weekend, and holiday work may be required.

Texas A&M University’s Cyclotron Institute is a Department of Energy university facility conducting accelerator-based research, education, and technical applications in areas including space science, materials science, and nuclear medicine.

What you will do

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on cooling tower fans, tower pumps, heat exchangers, low-conductivity water pumps, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
• Repair water leaks in the Cyclotron and related equipment.
• Maintain the chemical balance of cooling tower and low-conductivity water systems.
• Install and repair copper piping up to four inches with valves as needed.
• Recommend actions to prevent equipment failures and restore or improve equipment reliability.
• Provide direction to assistant technicians and help prepare cost estimates for new installations.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Seven years of related maintenance experience with industrial boilers, steam- or gas-turbine generators, or industrial and commercial chilling equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic tools, including laser alignment and vibration data processors.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis methods and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Ability to ascend stairs, stand for extended periods, and lift or move heavy objects.
• Forklift certification must be obtained within six months of employment or at the next available EH&S training session; required training must be successfully completed.

Nice to have

• Welding certification.
• ISA Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic certification.
