TL;DR
Director of Manufacturing Automation (Robotics/AI/IoT): Leading the strategy, design, and implementation of advanced automation across global manufacturing, assembly, packaging, and distribution operations with an accent on robotics, PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and Industry 4.0 integration. Focus on scaling automation roadmaps, commissioning multi-functional projects, optimizing production through Lean and Six Sigma, and developing automation engineering teams.

Location: St Louis Park, Minnesota, United States; hybrid schedule with a minimum of four office days and one remote day per week. Approximately 25% domestic and international travel is required.

Compensation: $172,900–$256,880 per year, plus potential annual or long-term incentives.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement an enterprise-aligned automation strategy and future-state technology roadmaps.
  • Lead the evaluation and integration of robotics, AI, IoT, human-machine interfaces, vision systems, PLCs, and other automation technologies.
  • Manage automation projects from feasibility studies and business cases through execution, commissioning, budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination.
  • Integrate automation systems with ERP, MES, and quality systems across manufacturing, assembly, packaging, and distribution processes.
  • Optimize processes using data analytics, real-time monitoring, Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Build and lead teams of automation engineers, controls specialists, and technicians while managing automation risks, maturity, and performance KPIs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field; a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design is preferred.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing automation and transformation.
  • Proven success leading global teams and large-scale automation initiatives.
  • Deep expertise in robotics, mechatronics, AI, IoT, vision systems, Industry 4.0, automation systems, data analytics, and lean manufacturing.
  • Strong analytical, project management, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Availability to work in the St Louis Park office at least four days per week and travel approximately 25% domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design.
