Research Animal Technician I

Location: On-site in Dallas, Texas, United States; Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Texas A&M University Health Science Center is an academic health center whose College of Dentistry provides oral health sciences education, research, specialized patient care, and continuing dental education.

What you will do

• Handle, clean, groom, feed, and water conventional and specific pathogen-free research animals.
• Observe animals daily, assess health and environmental conditions, and monitor research impacts.
• Clean and maintain laboratories, storage areas, animal care spaces, and treatment rooms according to established procedures.
• Receive, verify, organize, and monitor animal feed and laboratory supplies.
• Perform basic maintenance and mechanical repairs on cages, racks, tables, and automatic watering equipment.
• Transport animals, caging equipment, feed, and bedding while maintaining required records.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least six months of related experience in laboratory animal care or laboratory upkeep.
• Knowledge of animal care and safety processes.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Successful completion of a CMP Laboratory Animal Science Course within the first year of employment.

Nice to have

• More than six months of experience in laboratory animal care or related laboratory upkeep.
