Surgical Technician (Rodent) (Biomedical Research)

What you will do

• Perform pre-operative health assessments, anesthesia administration, medication dosing, vital monitoring, and anesthetic recovery for mice.
• Maintain accurate and consistent surgical records and documentation.
• Provide post-operative animal assessment and treatment.
• Stock and sanitize surgical areas, maintain equipment, and perform basic animal husbandry.
• Perform minor surgical procedures such as incision repair and develop additional surgical skills.
• Pack mice for shipment to customers and support additional operational duties as needed.

Requirements

• Ability to learn and perform basic aseptic survival surgery on mice using a microscope.
• Confidence in animal handling and biomethods, with strong attention to detail and consistency.
• Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology gained through a BS in Animal Science or a related field, or a high school diploma plus at least one year of rodent-handling experience.
• Ability to collaborate effectively, prioritize tasks, communicate clearly, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
• Availability for rotating weekends and holidays, plus occasional travel.

Nice to have

• Experience working with laboratory rodents.
