TL;DR
General Engineer - Civil/Structural Engineering Standards (Transmission & Substation Engineering): Developing and maintaining civil and structural design standards, material specifications, construction specifications, and generic design drawings for transmission and substation assets with an accent on safety, constructability, reliability, and standardized implementation. Focus on analyzing failure trends, improving materials and designs, leading multidisciplinary work, and supporting the commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.

Location: Hybrid role based in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, United States

Annual salary: $92,000–$126,500, plus an eligible 15% annual bonus.

What you will do

  • Develop, review, update, and implement Transmission & Substation engineering design standards for assets ranging from 4kV to 765kV.
  • Manage engineering practices, material specifications, construction specifications, and generic design drawings for civil and structural applications.
  • Work with vendors and cross-functional engineering and field groups to improve material designs, standards, safety, effectiveness, and constructability.
  • Investigate failure modes and industry trends to recommend material and design improvements and support extent-of-condition analyses.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and provide technical training, mentorship, peer review, and guidance.
  • Interface with industry organizations including IEEE, EPRI, EEI, and MEA to introduce design and material improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a Licensed Professional Engineer credential issued by the state of practice.
  • 4–7 years of professional engineering experience, with at least two related career experiences, an Engineer in Training credential, or qualifying advanced-degree or certification progress.
  • Knowledge of civil and structural engineering designs, principles, practices, regulations, codes, standards, and advanced engineering methods.
  • Ability to analyze complex electrical and mechanical systems and use applicable analysis software packages.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer qualification.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including communication with all management levels.
