TL;DR
Associate Transmission System Operator (Power Systems): Learning and supporting generation, transmission, and sub-transmission system operations with an accent on switching and tagging procedures, reliability, and congestion management. Focus on interpreting operating procedures and local flow tools, making decisions from system data, and progressing toward the Transmission System Operator classification through rotating-shift training.

Location: Berlin, Connecticut, United States; onsite with rotating shifts

Salary: Starting at $129,529.55 per year, progressing in accordance with the union contract.

What you will do

  • Learn the generation, transmission, and sub-transmission system components, terminology, and operating procedures.
  • Learn and apply switching and tagging procedures under the guidance of a Transmission System Operator.
  • Complete increasingly complex training assignments involving system operations and rotating-shift work.
  • Analyze system information, prioritize actions, and make decisions that support transmission reliability and availability.
  • Apply operating procedures and guidelines to minimize congestion and interpret local flow tools and applications.
  • Communicate with transmission process groups, utility organizations, regional operators, industry groups, asset management, and transmission customers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electrical engineering technology, two years of formal technical training beyond high school, or equivalent.
  • Four years of related experience in generating stations, electrical maintenance, power system protection and control, electrical line work, or power system dispatching.
  • Ability to analyze information, identify relevant facts, prioritize actions, and make decisions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with people at different organizational levels.
  • Mathematical reasoning skills and ability to use computer applications for computational and analytical work.
  • Successful completion of the SO/PD (System Operator/Power Dispatcher) Test is required for selection.
