TL;DR
Senior Systems Engineer - System Safety Engineer (Aerospace): Leading system safety engineering for aerospace programs, including qualitative and quantitative analyses, requirements compliance, and customer communication with an accent on MIL-STD-882, ARP4761, and aircraft systems development. Focus on authoring Functional Hazard Analyses and System Safety Assessments, mitigating system safety risks through design changes and operational controls, and coordinating complex engineering deliverables.

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States; hybrid environment with occasional travel

What you will do

  • Lead system safety engineering efforts for small and medium-sized aerospace programs.
  • Advise engineering teams on system safety requirements, analyses, and risk management.
  • Plan, perform, and author qualitative and quantitative system safety analyses.
  • Communicate system safety program status and technical findings to customers.
  • Collaborate across engineering functions to drive project success and support major project deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with aerospace programs and aircraft systems development.
  • Experience applying MIL-STD-882 or ARP4761 to systems, hardware, or software development.
  • Experience creating Functional Hazard Analyses, System Safety Assessments, and other qualitative and quantitative system safety analyses.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience using AC 25.1309 or AC 23.1309 for design development.
  • Experience developing system safety analyses for software systems.
  • Experience with MBSE using Cameo, Jama, or similar tools.
  • Experience mitigating system safety risks through design changes, fault detection, usage restrictions, and training.
  • Experience tailoring analyses and requirements to program size, complexity, schedule, and budget.
