TL;DR
Systems Engineer Level IV (Aerospace): Leading the full systems engineering lifecycle for space and aerospace systems supporting U.S. Government programs with an accent on requirements development, architecture, integration, and verification. Focus on conducting trade studies, coordinating multidisciplinary subsystem integration, and executing mission-critical design reviews and testing.

Location: Washington Navy Yard, District of Columbia, United States; on-site/hybrid work supporting government labs, integration facilities, and offices, with occasional travel to test and launch sites.

Salary: $135,600–$186,400 per year for the Washington, DC area.

What you will do

  • Lead systems engineering activities from concept development through mission operations.
  • Develop, decompose, and manage system and subsystem requirements with traceability.
  • Conduct system-level trade studies and develop aerospace and space system architectures.
  • Integrate multidisciplinary subsystems into cohesive system designs.
  • Lead verification and validation planning and execution, including integration, test, and evaluation.
  • Support SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and FRR design reviews while coordinating cost and schedule alignment with program management and interfacing with government customers and subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of systems engineering experience across the full systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience with requirements tools such as DOORS and MBSE.
  • Understanding of aerospace and space system architectures and experience supporting government programs.
  • Active Secret clearance required; TS/SCI clearance preferred or eligibility is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NRL, NAVSEA, DARPA, or similar organizations.
  • MBSE and digital engineering experience.
  • Flight hardware program experience.
  • Leadership experience at the task or team level.
