HVAC Controls Engineer

Location: Memphis, TN, United States; onsite facility work required

Salary: $31.50–$55.00 per hour

What you will do

• Monitor and support daily operation of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems.
• Inspect facility systems, identify risks or inefficiencies, and troubleshoot automation and equipment issues.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance, alarm response, emergency response, repairs, and system upgrades.
• Review HVAC control sequences and recommend minor improvements for efficiency and reliability.
• Coordinate with internal teams, senior engineers, maintenance staff, contractors, and external vendors.
• Maintain maintenance records and track work orders through CMMS while supporting a strong safety culture.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 4+ years of relevant experience in facilities maintenance, controls systems, or technical services.
• Experience maintaining and repairing facility equipment, with basic knowledge of HVAC, steam, chilled water, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read control diagrams and HVAC sequences and troubleshoot building automation systems.
• Understanding of workplace safety practices, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and contractors.
• A First-Class Steam Operating Engineer’s License and First Class Refrigeration Operating Engineer’s License must be obtained within two years of hire.

Nice to have

• Technical school diploma or professional certification in a related area.
• Exposure to Johnson Controls Metasys or other building automation systems.
• Familiarity with CMMS platforms, BACnet, Modbus, and LON communication protocols.
• Experience in a hospital, campus, or multi-building environment.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
