Structural Analysis Engineer IV (Aerospace): Leading structural analysis and mechanical design for small satellites, payloads, sub-assemblies, and ground support equipment with an accent on finite element modeling, aerospace structural mechanics, and environmental testing. Focus on performing linear and nonlinear static, dynamic, and thermal analyses, validating models through ground and flight tests, and resolving complex structural risks and design issues.

Location: Louisville, Colorado; must be local to the work location, with flexible occasional telework

Salary: $101,175.06–$175,923.79 annually

What you will do

  • Lead and support structural analysis of small satellites, payloads, sub-assemblies, and ground support equipment.
  • Develop and execute finite element models using NASA and military standards.
  • Perform static, dynamic, and thermal analyses, first-principles calculations, trade studies, and sensitivity analyses.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to optimize structures, materials, and configurations for performance, weight, cost, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare analysis reports, technical memoranda, presentations, and recommendations for engineers, managers, customers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support structural testing, environmental test campaigns, model validation, hardware specification, and quoting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 8–10 years of relevant experience, master’s degree plus 6–8 years, or PhD plus 3–5 years.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in the space industry, including structural analysis and mechanical design of small satellites.
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis software; Femap is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, dynamics, materials science, and CAD modeling.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Experience bounding difficult problems through first-principles calculations and hand calculations.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and independently in a small team environment.
