TL;DR

Location: Greenbelt, Maryland, United States; on-site support is preferred, with remote work possible only if approved by the customer. US Citizenship is required.

Salary: $137,700–$206,600 annually, with the range specific to the Greenbelt, Maryland area.

Provides engineering and analysis support for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center programs and aerospace missions.

What you will do

  • Support flight hardware development from preliminary and detailed design through drawing release, manufacturing, integration, testing, transportation, and launch.
  • Perform classical mechanics calculations and finite element analyses for stiffness, strength, structural thermal optical performance, and related requirements.
  • Generate finite element models for normal modes, linear static, and dynamic analyses to evaluate structural response and stability.
  • Perform analyses for and provide engineering support during static and dynamic structural tests.
  • Prepare structural analysis reports, test documents, technical memoranda, and presentation packages.
  • Apply NASA and GSFC requirements, guidelines, and procedures to aerospace structural engineering activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant structural analysis experience.
  • Experience with structural and mechanical design, load and stress analysis, and FEA.
  • Working knowledge of NASTRAN and FEMAP or PATRAN for FEA pre- and post-processing.
  • Experience with engineering analysis and programming in Excel, MATLAB, Python, or similar software.
  • US Citizenship required; on-site support in Greenbelt is preferred, while remote work requires customer approval.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Integrated Modeling and Structural Thermal Optical Performance analysis, including custom MATLAB and Python code.
  • Knowledge of aerospace structural systems, materials, load paths, and quasi-static, mechanical, vibro-acoustic, thermal, pressure, and shock environments.
  • Expertise with composite and metallic structures, sandwich construction, plastics, fastened interfaces, bonded joints, and welds.
  • Experience designing and analyzing spacecraft buses, instruments, deployables, mechanisms, optical benches, and mechanical ground support equipment.
