TL;DR
Thermal-Structural Analyst (FEA/Nuclear Microreactors): Building and running nonlinear thermal-structural models for reactor components and power-conversion subsystems, with an accent on thermal-mechanical performance, design optimization, and safety-critical analysis. Focus on validating models through test campaigns, analyzing fatigue, creep, fracture, and dynamic loads, and developing engineering tools for rapid design assessment.

Location: Torrance, California, in the Los Angeles area; onsite work at hirify.global' facility.

Salary: $115,000–$150,000 per year plus equity.

Company

hirify.global is a Series B startup developing mass-producible, inherently safe microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.

What you will do

  • Build, run, and maintain nonlinear thermal and structural FEA models of reactor components and subsystem assemblies.
  • Assess designs against static, dynamic, thermal, fatigue, creep, mechanical, operational, and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with design and responsible engineers on sizing, material selection, design modification, and optimization.
  • Document analytical results, assumptions, limitations, and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Support test campaigns through test planning, instrumentation selection, failure root-cause analysis, data review, and model validation.
  • Develop internal engineering tools and calculators and provide technical mentorship across teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience performing thermal and structural analysis.
  • Experience building and running nonlinear thermal and structural FEA models.
  • Competence with CAD software for design modification and model defeaturing, such as Siemens NX or similar.
  • Experience with steady-state and transient thermal modeling.
  • Must meet U.S. Government export-control requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Low-cycle and high-cycle fatigue, creep, fracture, acceptable-flaw, and dynamic-load analysis experience.
  • Experience with regulatory qualification or certification programs for safety-critical aerospace or nuclear systems.
  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III Division 5.
  • Experience developing tools in Python, MATLAB, or another programming language.
  • Experience building and running CFD models.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity and a significant stock option package.
  • Fast-paced environment with rapid design iteration cycles.
  • Close collaboration between engineering, testing, analysis, R&D, and production teams.
  • Emphasis on systems thinking, end-user focus, unconventional solutions, and in-person collaboration.
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends when necessary to support critical milestones.
