TL;DR
Environmental Technician - Hazardous Building Materials (Environmental Building Sciences): Performing hazardous building material inspections, indoor air quality assessments, mold and water intrusion investigations, and sample collection with an accent on asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, regulatory documentation, and contractor coordination. Focus on conducting field inspections across Texas, operating sampling instruments, preparing reports, and managing safety requirements in emergency response scenarios.

Location: Austin, Texas; work within the Houston, Texas office and travel throughout Texas is expected.

Salary: USD $20.00–$28.84 per hour, plus potential participation in an annual discretionary bonus program.

What you will do

  • Perform inspections of hazardous building materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, and PCBs.
  • Conduct indoor air quality inspections, water intrusion investigations, and mold assessments.
  • Oversee projects and coordinate with contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Operate and maintain sampling pumps, calibrators, and other field instruments.
  • Collect samples, complete data sheets and chain-of-custody forms, and prepare materials for laboratory shipment.
  • Maintain project logs, read specifications and drawings, and prepare reports.

Requirements

  • Entry-level profile; 1–3 years of experience in hazardous building materials, indoor air quality, or industrial hygiene is preferred.
  • High school diploma required, with the ability to read project specifications and drawings.
  • Strong verbal communication, adaptability, consultative problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to carry equipment, climb ladders, use hand and power tools, and wear respirators, safety harnesses, and other required safety equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required; travel throughout Texas is expected.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, physical examination, and motor vehicle records check.

Nice to have

  • Experience with abatement projects.
  • TDSHS Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Project Manager, or Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician license.
