Lead Histology Lab Technician (Digital Pathology)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee, United States; onsite Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage may be required.

Salary: $26.00–$45.50 per hour

What you will do

• Prepare, scan, and verify pathology slides using whole-slide imaging systems.
• Review image quality, integrate digital images into pathology information systems, and troubleshoot routine scanner and software issues.
• Track, retrieve, store, loan, return, and dispose of pathology slides and tissue blocks throughout their lifecycle.
• Maintain inventory records, chain-of-custody documentation, specimen traceability, and secure archival storage.
• Conduct archive audits, investigate discrepancies, and support CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, DNV, retention, inspection, and accreditation requirements.
• Perform microtomy and support tissue processing, embedding, staining, special stains, immunohistochemistry, quality control, and instrument maintenance.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED and completion of a NAACLS-approved Histology Technician or Histology Technologist training program, or an equivalent program meeting current federal and state regulations.
• Eight years of relevant experience, or six years with an associate’s degree.
• ASCP-HSTCH or ASCP-HSTGT certification as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist is required.
• Demonstrated performance in an earlier or comparable role and experience supporting complex laboratory needs.
• Ability to provide occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage.

Nice to have

• Associate’s degree.
• ASCP-QIHC qualification in immunohistochemistry.
• Experience handling laboratory crises, training team members, and supporting laboratory safety and compliance.
