Pathologists' Assistant

Location: Tufts Medical Center; onsite work in a pathology laboratory and surgical pathology suite

Salary: $101,084.26–$128,878.21 annually based on full-time equivalent

What you will do

• Prepare, gross, dissect, photograph, and preserve surgical and autopsy specimens.
• Assist with forensic, medicolegal, and hospital autopsies under the direction of a pathologist.
• Summarize medical records and prepare autopsy reports, surgical pathology protocols, and related documentation.
• Prepare tissue for pathological examination and testing, including specimen coding, billing code entry, and filing reports and slides.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, clean the surgical pathology suite, and procure samples for biospecimen banking.
• Instruct pathology residents, fellows, students, and other pathology laboratory personnel; participate in research.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Pathology or a related biological science.
• Certified Pathologist’s Assistant certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with strong attention to detail, communication, and analytical skills.
• Ability to stand or walk for up to half of the workday and lift or push weights up to 200 pounds.
• Ability to work with human waste, noxious odors and gases, infectious materials, and hazardous biological agents.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Pathology or a related biological science.
• Experience in Pathology.
