What you will do

• Prepare unstained and routine hematoxylin and eosin stained slides from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue blocks.
• Operate microtomes, water baths, automated stainers and coverslippers, tissue processors, embedding centers, and cryostats.
• Determine block orientation, alignment, knife angles, and equipment settings to obtain representative sections.
• Maintain specimen, slide, and folder identification and integrity throughout the workflow.
• Collaborate with pathologists, pathology laboratory coordinators, and histology colleagues on slide quality and daily cutting and staining deadlines.
• Track completed work in the custom LIMS, maintain equipment records, and report instrumentation, sample, or laboratory issues promptly.

Requirements

• Previous histology experience required.
• Knowledge of CAP regulations and pathology laboratory SOPs and protocols.
• Comfort with laboratory safety requirements and training.
• Ability to perform routine workflows independently and consistently produce quality finished products.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Chicago, Illinois.

Nice to have

• Associate degree preferred.
• Histology certification is not required.
