TL;DR
Telecom Technician (Pipeline Telecommunications): Maintaining and installing telecommunications equipment supporting pipeline operations, terminals, and company assets with an accent on microwave radio, industrial wireless, SCADA communications, and LAN/WAN networks. Focus on diagnosing outages, restoring services, documenting repairs, and performing field work with required travel, callouts, and outdoor operations.

Location: Midland, Texas, United States; onsite. The role involves approximately 70% outdoor work, regular travel, a company vehicle, callouts, unscheduled overtime, and occasional non-traditional hours.

What you will do

  • Maintain and install telecommunications equipment supporting pipeline operations, terminals, and associated company assets.
  • Work with microwave radios, industrial wireless systems, SCADA communications, VSAT, CDMA, phone systems, digital multiplexers, LAN/WAN networks, and VHF radio systems.
  • Diagnose complex telecommunications problems, isolate outages, and restore services, including emergency support.
  • Document outages, installations, and repairs in a ticketing system.
  • Plan daily work, coordinate with employees, management, vendors, and customers, and operate with limited supervision.
  • Maintain safety, dependable attendance, service availability, and professional communication standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma; an associate degree in Electronics Technology is expected, though four years of active electronic technology or telecommunications experience may substitute.
  • At least three years of direct telecommunications experience for Level II Technician consideration, in addition to the education requirement or approved substitute.
  • Training in electronics or a thorough working understanding of telecommunications.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the company and its insurers are required for travel.
  • Ability to obtain or retain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) may be required.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, organizational, written, verbal communication, customer service, and Microsoft Office skills; ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds regularly.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of digital microwave communications, digital multiplexers, terminal servers, LAN/WAN networks, routers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Cisco CCNA, Cisco IP Telephony, Nortel, NABER two-way radio, NICET, or FCC certifications or licenses.
