TL;DR
Senior Systems Engineer (Space Systems): Driving architecture design, requirements development, and risk management for advanced system-of-systems space architectures with an accent on MBSE, interface definition, and system-level validation. Focus on developing traceable mission-level requirements, conducting trade studies, and integrating software, hardware, and network domains for resilient space systems.

Location: On-site at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Travel is less than 10%.

hirify.global supports the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Space Vehicles Directorate and the Rapid Architecture Prototyping and Integration Development laboratory in developing resilient space systems for the U.S. Space Force.

What you will do

  • Lead architecture design, requirements development, and technical risk management for advanced system-of-systems space architectures.
  • Lead technical interchange meetings, design reviews, stakeholder briefings, and collaboration with government stakeholders and program offices.
  • Develop and manage system-of-systems requirements, including traceability across subsystems, interface definitions, validation, and verification.
  • Develop and review CONOPS and mission-level use cases, and support preliminary and detailed system architecture development.
  • Conduct system-level trade studies and support algorithm, modeling, integration, testing, and validation activities.
  • Guide junior engineers and subcontractors and communicate technical status and risk posture to program and customer leadership.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance required before starting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant technical engineering experience, including 2 years of systems engineering experience on large-scale government programs valued at $100M or more.
  • Familiarity with MBSE tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, or Enterprise Architect, plus systems engineering tools including DOORS, Jama, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions, manage complex systems and requirements, and solve problems independently.

Nice to have

  • Experience with space systems, satellite communications, or secure ground systems.
  • Background in IT infrastructure, networked systems, defense acquisition processes, trade studies, algorithm development, or system-level modeling.
  • Understanding of DoDAF or SysML architectural frameworks.
  • Experience working with senior government or military leadership.
