TL;DR
Sensor Engineer IV (Imaging Science): Evaluating and initializing emerging sensor systems through sensor modeling, image-chain analysis, algorithm assessment, and system performance monitoring with an accent on image quality, detector calibration, optics, and image processing. Focus on quantifying image-chain performance, identifying errors and artifacts, and developing independent testing and data verification methods.

Location: White Sands, New Mexico, United States; no remote or telework allowed

Salary: $5,000 per month

What you will do

  • Model sensor systems and decompose product-formation elements to quantify image-chain quality.
  • Assess algorithms against mission applications and establish baseline system performance for sensor initialization.
  • Monitor operational system performance over time and investigate errors and image artifacts.
  • Recommend possible causes and corrective actions for detected performance issues.
  • Develop and execute testing and verification methodologies for current systems and products.

Requirements

  • Active and maintainable TS/SCI clearance with polygraph required.
  • 8–10 years of experience with a BS, 6–8 years with an MS, or 3–5 years with a PhD.
  • Degree in Imaging Science or Engineering.
  • Experience in image science, including phenomenology, sensor technology, and image processing.
  • Knowledge of image-chain analysis, sensor modeling, signal quality and noise, optics, detector calibration, pixel-data processing, and image-quality metrics.
  • Understanding of systems engineering lifecycles, independent testing, data verification, and sensor imaging systems.

Nice to have

  • Degree in Image Science, Engineering, or Physics.
  • Understanding of the enterprise TCPED process and RF analysis or antenna modeling.
  • Experience in DoD or IC operational environments and on Product Initialization teams.
  • Understanding of machine learning and neural network algorithms.
  • Engineering-code development experience with C, Python, Matlab, or IDL.
