TL;DR
Thermal Design Engineer IV (Spacecraft): Designing and analyzing thermal systems for complex spacecraft and payloads across component, subsystem, and full-system levels with an accent on electronic component integration, thermal closure, and FEM-based modeling. Focus on developing Thermal Desktop models, validating preliminary concepts through production, and solving thermal, cost, and schedule challenges in collaboration with avionics, mechanical, structural, program management, and AI&T teams.

Location: Louisville, Colorado, United States; must be local to the work location, with occasional telework available

Projected compensation: $108,763.19–$189,118.08 annually

What you will do

  • Design and analyze thermal systems for complex spacecraft and payloads at component, subsystem, and full-system levels.
  • Develop thermal integration solutions for processors, power supplies, cameras, optical assemblies, and other electronic components.
  • Ensure thermal designs achieve closure while meeting technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Perform FEM-based thermal model analysis using Thermal Desktop.
  • Develop preliminary concepts, support design verification and validation, and transition designs to rate production.
  • Collaborate with avionics, mechanical, structural, program management, and AI&T teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering or computation field, plus 8–10 years of experience; equivalent requirements include an MS with 6–8 years or a PhD with 3–5 years.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in the space industry.
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop, CAD modeling, and basic thermal principles.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
  • Must be local to Louisville, Colorado, for the flexible telework arrangement.

Nice to have

  • Ability to perform mechanical engineering design tasks using SolidWorks.
