TL;DR
Staff Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing mechanical systems and electronics packaging for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace platforms with an accent on thermal management, environmental qualification, and precision manufacturing. Focus on building high-power, high-density assemblies, performing FEA and thermal, shock, and vibration analyses, and supporting designs from concept through in-orbit operations.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical systems and electronics packaging through concept development, requirements definition, detailed design, manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support.
  • Develop mechanical solutions for high-power and high-density electronic assemblies used in spacecraft and aerospace systems.
  • Perform thermal, shock, vibration, stress, and finite element analyses using Ansys or similar tools.
  • Apply CAD, precision machining, advanced manufacturing, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and aerospace drawing practices.
  • Present engineering design reviews to customers and executives and contribute to proposal writing.
  • Mentor engineers technically and professionally.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible under United States Government Space Technology Export Regulations as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, conditional resident, asylee, refugee, or person eligible to obtain the required authorizations.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of industry experience designing and analyzing electronics packaging, including thermal, vibration, and stress dynamics.
  • Expertise in finite element analysis, thermal simulation, professional mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks, and thermal management for spaceborne or high-power electronics.
  • Experience designing hardware for launch and spaceflight environments, with knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation, GD&T, precision machining, and tolerance analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience packaging digital, power, or RF printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Experience with spacecraft payloads, avionics, or power systems.
  • Knowledge of NASA, DoD, ESA, or commercial space qualification standards.
  • Experience with thermal vacuum testing and spacecraft environmental qualification.
  • Familiarity with materials selection for radiation and outgassing environments.
