TL;DR
Thermal Analysis Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and verifying thermal control systems and spacecraft thermal models for NASA human spaceflight missions with an accent on steady-state and transient analysis, thermal environments, and PTCS/ATCS design. Focus on building high-fidelity models, correlating thermal vacuum test data, evaluating mission-phase performance, and validating designs against NASA requirements.
Location: NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas, United States
Company
supports NASA human spaceflight missions and the development of reliable aerospace systems.
What you will do
- Develop and maintain simplified to high-fidelity spacecraft thermal models using Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, and related tools.
- Perform steady-state and transient thermal analyses for spacecraft components, subsystems, and integrated vehicles across nominal and off-nominal mission phases.
- Conduct thermal sensitivity studies for vendor vehicle designs, Government Furnished Equipment, and requirements development.
- Support thermal verification and validation, including test planning, thermal vacuum testing, data analysis, and model correlation.
- Collaborate with design, systems engineering, mission operations, and hardware development teams to optimize PTCS and ATCS architectures.
- Review designs, participate in technical reviews and anomaly investigations, and present analysis results to NASA customers and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.
- Background check required.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- At least 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience; the position may be considered at multiple levels.
- Experience with thermal analysis tools such as Thermal Desktop, COMSOL, ANSYS Fluent, or similar software.
- Strong understanding of heat transfer, spacecraft thermal environments, thermal design validation, and requirements compliance.
Nice to have
- 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience and aerospace thermal analysis or design experience.
- Proficiency with Thermal Desktop.
- Experience with Passive or Active Thermal Control System hardware design, analysis, testing, certification, or operations.
