Medical Interpreter Part-Time

Location: Memphis, Tennessee, United States; on-site and over-the-phone interpretation

Salary: $24.00–$42.00 per hour

What you will do

• Interpret critical medical information in Spanish and English for providers, patients, and caregivers during inpatient and outpatient visits.
• Interpret telephone conferences and support clear communication for Limited-English-Proficient and Non-English-Proficient patients and families.
• Connect patients and families with appropriate hospital resources while maintaining confidentiality.
• Translate non-critical documents on a limited basis and maintain accurate daily service records.
• Collaborate with interpreters to provide assignment coverage and participate in the on-call rotation as assigned.
• Assist with volunteer interpreter coordination and the orientation and training of other medical interpreters.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Completion of an accredited medical interpreter training course of at least 40 hours is required.
• At least three months or 480 hours of documented medical interpreting experience is required.
• Spanish-English medical interpretation skills are required.
• Obtain CCHI or NBCMI healthcare interpreter certification within 12 months of hire.
• Hospital and administrative experience are preferred.
