Interpreter II - PD (Haitian Creole)

Location: Tufts Medical Center - Corporate Location; patient-facing work in a medical facility, including accompanying patients to operating rooms and other departments.

Pay range: $23.04–$28.80 per hour.

What you will do

• Interpret spoken communication between English and Haitian Creole for patients, families, physicians, and staff.
• Translate correspondence, brochures, forms, and medical documents between English and Haitian Creole.
• Act as a cultural broker to identify and resolve misunderstandings between patients and providers.
• Support family meetings, consent procedures, appointment notifications, financial-aid processes, transfers, and patient-care conferences.
• Explain procedures, diagnoses, medical history, and diagnostic treatments to non-English-speaking patients.
• Respond to on-call requests for emergencies at night and on weekends when required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Medical interpreter certification from an accredited college or university, or completion of a medical interpreter training course and a third-party competency exam.
• At least one year of relevant interpreting experience.
• Bilingual English and Haitian Creole communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in both languages, with knowledge of interpreting techniques, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA/HITECH and comply with healthcare regulations and policies.
