Natural Gas Storage Development Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Houston, Texas, United States; occasional site visits and up to 20% travel required.

What you will do

• Lead the full lifecycle development of brownfield and greenfield underground natural gas storage expansion projects.
• Manage project scoping, budgeting, scheduling, drilling, well completion, and coordination with surface facility construction.
• Coordinate subsurface engineering, pipeline operations, commercial, regulatory, and legal teams from concept through commercial operation.
• Develop design criteria and optimize compression, dehydration, measurement, and piping infrastructure.
• Evaluate depleted reservoirs, salt caverns, and aquifers, including gas deliverability, storage integrity, base gas, and working gas requirements.
• Support regulatory filings, permitting, environmental assessments, customer storage contracts, and project economic evaluations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering, geoscience, or a related discipline.
• 5–8 years of experience in oil and gas midstream, reservoir engineering, or underground gas storage operations; senior-level candidates may have 8–15+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of underground storage types, well design, surface compression systems, integrity management, and diagnostic techniques.
• Experience with engineering simulation software, compression sizing, risk management, and project scheduling tools such as MS Project or Primavera.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
• Ability to work in a hybrid Houston-based role and travel to project sites as needed.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree or Professional Engineer license.
• Experience managing upstream or midstream subsurface projects or natural gas storage development.
