Senior Liability Trial Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Location: Tarrytown, New York, United States; regular court proceedings, hearings, trials, depositions, and business travel required.

Annual base salary: $132,800–$219,100.

What you will do

• Independently manage higher-exposure cases and complex litigation matters, including Major Case and Complex Claim matters depending on the line of business.
• Try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions using advanced litigation skills and techniques.
• Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents; and deliver persuasive oral and written presentations.
• Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments; analyze cases and recommend file-handling strategies to insured clients and Claim partners.
• Work with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies, evaluate technical matters, and prepare testimony.
• Manage client and business partner relationships, provide training and legal updates, mentor attorneys and legal support staff, and support office goals through special projects and technology.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including insurance defense litigation experience.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Ability to regularly handle hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, and other court proceedings, including transportation to those meetings.
• Valid driver's license where required by the location.
• Proven jury-trial experience with a history of successful courtroom outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge of the relevant practice areas, advanced oral and written advocacy skills, and demonstrated summary judgment and/or appellate success.
• In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
• Strong collaboration, customer service, leadership, mentoring, decision-making, negotiation, prioritization, attention to detail, responsiveness, flexibility, and adaptability.
