Insurance Products - Senior Counsel (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid; requires working three days onsite in Chevy Chase, MD, New York, NY, or Cleveland, OH. The role must be performed in the United States.

Annual salary: $148,625–$260,350

What you will do

• Advise assigned business units on legal requirements related to new insurance products, business practices, and operational plans.
• Build relationships with business stakeholders and understand their objectives, processes, and procedures.
• Anticipate future legal needs, risks, and opportunities and provide practical advice to non-lawyers.
• Draft and review policy documents while anticipating litigation exposure.
• Identify legal implications across insurance compliance, consumer protection, contracts, privacy, and state unfair claims practices requirements.
• Coordinate support for business units from other areas of the legal department.

Requirements

• Law degree and active license to practice law in the United States required.
• Typically 5–7 years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal role.
• Experience as a legal advisor or coverage counselor for property and casualty insurance products, or insurance litigation experience involving bad faith or extra-contractual exposure.
• Strong listening, communication, research, writing, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to understand business plans quickly and provide advice with incomplete information.
• Experience solving business problems and working with legal and non-legal cross-functional teams.
