Technician, Director/TD (NE)

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States; onsite at 5800 Sunset Blvd (Tribune-KTLA)

Salary: $58.07+ per hour, commensurate with experience and skill level.

hirify.global operates the KTLA broadcast production environment for live news, recorded programming, original content, and special events.

What you will do

• Call and punch live and recorded broadcasts, breaking news, special coverage, and original programming using Ross OverDrive Automation.
• Execute camera, remote, graphic, video, still-image, and other source selections, routing sources to studio monitors.
• Code, organize, and execute newscasts and specials using ENPS-based rundowns.
• Build and customize OverDrive coding with producers and technical staff to improve automation efficiency.
• Coordinate with news, production, engineering, editorial, and design teams to maintain smooth operations and resolve technical issues.
• Support robotic camera operation, media coordination, A2 relief duties, workflow documentation, and show reports.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience as a Technical Director in a live news environment.
• Expert proficiency with Ross OverDrive automation and show coding.
• Strong technical troubleshooting, communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under high-stress conditions and adapt quickly to new workflows, commands, and last-minute breaking-news changes.
• Availability for flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be based onsite in Los Angeles, California, and be an IATSE member or willing to join.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ross XPression graphics and other production switchers.
• Knowledge of studio lighting, Streamdeck, OBS, Dejero, Optic, Chyron, Bit Central, and Cue-Script.
