Animal Caretaker - Large Animal Hospital

What you will do

• Provide routine care, feeding, watering, transport, handling, and restraint for large animal patients.
• Clean and disinfect stalls, treatment rooms, wards, animal holding areas, feed rooms, and related facilities.
• Monitor patients and report concerns to veterinary and clinical teams.
• Check inventories of feed, cleaning supplies, buckets, bowls, shavings, and other materials.
• Assist veterinary technicians, DVM students, and student workers with patient care and ward protocols.
• Operate forklifts and university vehicles, manage manure and waste, and turn out university-owned animals to paddocks.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one year of experience handling and caring for large animals, including horses, cattle, sheep, or goats.
• At least one year of large animal handling and/or husbandry experience.
• Knowledge of animal feeds, disinfectants, PPE protocols, biosecurity, and animal behavior.
• Oral and written communication skills, multitasking ability, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to maintain rabies prophylaxis and complete required university and department training.
