Senior Mechanical Engineer (Packaging Machinery)

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. Relocation assistance is available for candidates outside the local market. Employment eligibility in the United States is required.

hirify.global, through Ossid, manufactures automated packaging machinery for food and medical device applications, including thermoform, fill and seal, weighing, labeling, tray sealing, and tray overwrap systems.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical design projects from concept through final testing and customer delivery using formal engineering development and Stage Gate processes.
• Develop 3D CAD models, machine layouts, bills of materials, and detailed mechanical drawings.
• Coordinate design activities with manufacturing, assembly, controls, electrical engineering, product line management, and service teams.
• Apply knowledge of motors, drives, sensors, actuators, pneumatics, HMIs, and PLC interfaces to mechanical design decisions.
• Oversee prototype builds, debugging, assembly testing, and final machine testing.
• Mentor engineers, maintain engineering documentation, evaluate competitive products, and improve design standards and processes.

Requirements

• 7+ years of mechanical design experience in packaging machinery, industrial equipment, or related capital equipment.
• Experience managing projects through Stage Gate, VA/VE, or comparable formal engineering development processes.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, and PDM or data management systems.
• Understanding of machine controls components and their impact on mechanical design.
• Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, machine and tooling design, and design for manufacturability.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple projects, communicate effectively, and work independently or collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Simulation and material analysis experience.
• GD&T experience.
• Experience with MRP or ERP systems and multi-level BOM structures.
• Strong knowledge of engineering principles and standards, with a willingness to work hands-on with machinery and equipment.
