TL;DR

What you will do

  • Set up, run, and document optical tests for payloads, optical benches, filters, detectors, calibration hardware, and prototype or flight-like assemblies.
  • Perform FTIR measurements and spectral characterization covering transmission, reflection, coating performance, filter behavior, and LWIR-relevant optical response.
  • Support visible-through-LWIR measurements using spectrometers, broadband sources, lasers, blackbodies, collimators, integrating spheres, cameras, detectors, and data-acquisition tools.
  • Perform optical metrology, inspection, alignment checks, dimensional checks, clear-aperture verification, surface-quality inspection, and cleanliness/FOD verification.
  • Handle and align precision optical hardware while following cleanroom, ESD, and contamination-control practices.
  • Collect and reduce test data, maintain laboratory records, support acceptance and environmental testing, troubleshoot anomalies, and keep laboratory equipment ready for use.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience as an optical technician, with 5–6 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience in an optical manufacturing or R&D setting.
  • Proficiency with optical tools and instruments and a strong understanding of optical principles, systems, and lens technology.
  • Experience testing, troubleshooting, and repairing optical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, follow detailed procedures, and maintain a high level of precision and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and effective verbal and written communication.
