TL;DR
Manufacturing/NPI Engineer (Optics) (Precision Optical Components): Taking lenses, mirrors, coatings, and concentrator assemblies from engineering prototypes through qualification and high-volume production with an accent on manufacturing readiness, optical metrology, and supplier quality. Focus on developing scalable alignment, bonding, coating, and cleaning processes, solving optical yield and reliability issues, and improving cost and production ramp performance.

Location: Austin, TX; on-site. Relocation to Austin, TX is required if hired, with relocation assistance provided. Domestic and international travel to supplier and manufacturing sites is required as needed.

Company

hirify.global develops the P3 system, which captures solar energy, stores it as heat, and generates electricity on demand for AI infrastructure.

What you will do

  • Own NPI for precision optical components and assemblies from design-for-manufacturing feedback through pilot builds, qualification, and volume ramp.
  • Develop, document, and validate optical fabrication and assembly processes, including alignment, bonding, coating, cleaning, and handling.
  • Define optical metrology methods, quality controls, supplier acceptance criteria, and qualification requirements.
  • Qualify and develop domestic and international suppliers through audits, first article inspections, PPAP, qualification builds, and corrective actions.
  • Translate optical performance requirements into manufacturable specifications, realistic tolerances, and scalable processes with design engineering.
  • Lead root cause analysis, corrective actions, cost reduction, and yield improvement across pilot and production builds.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of manufacturing, process, or NPI engineering experience with precision optical components or optomechanical assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of optical fabrication and assembly processes, including molding, polishing, coating, replication, precision alignment, and bonding.
  • Hands-on experience with optical metrology such as interferometry, spectrophotometry, CMM, or imaging-based alignment verification.
  • Experience taking hardware through prototype, EVT/DVT/PVT, or equivalent NPI phase gates into volume production.
  • Supplier-facing experience with qualification builds, audits, first article inspection, and corrective action management.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, SPC, PFMEA, control plans, and structured root cause methods such as 8D or 5-Why; bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or physics field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience manufacturing optics for solar, automotive, lighting, display, or other cost-driven high-volume applications.
  • Familiarity with Fresnel lenses, lamination, reflector or concentrator optics, non-imaging optics, and optical coating durability testing.
  • Experience establishing production lines or transferring processes between suppliers or geographies, including Asia.
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, glass forming, or roll-to-roll replication for optical surfaces.
  • Experience in an early-stage or fast-ramp hardware environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Relocation assistance is provided for relocation to Austin, TX.
  • Domestic and international travel to supplier and manufacturing sites is part of the role.
  • Work in an early-stage hardware environment focused on building scalable manufacturing processes.
