Mechanical Engineer / Test Engineer

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado; must be local to the work location. Flexible for occasional telework and willing to travel to test facilities. Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance is required.

Projected annual compensation: $67,187.47–$117,483.74.

What you will do

• Support materials-testing experiments by developing test plans, preparing test articles, performing pre- and post-test metrology and imagery, and compiling build documentation.
• Coordinate with national and local laboratories to execute tests, capture data, and safely transport instrumentation and experimental hardware.
• Operate data acquisition systems and install and calibrate optical and electrical sensors.
• Develop laboratory procedures and experiment assembly instructions.
• Collaborate with customers, colleagues, and vendors to develop test solutions.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate gas gun impact test equipment and associated instrumentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 2–4 years of experience, master’s degree with 0–2 years, or high school diploma with 8–10 years of experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
• Proficiency with micrometers, height gauges, calipers, and other measurement tools.
• Experience with oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, data analysis, and test plans or reports.
• Experience designing and fabricating mechanical fixtures and components, using CAD, and working with instrumentation.
• Must be local to the Colorado Springs work location and willing to travel to support testing.

Nice to have

• Experience with microscopy systems and techniques.
• Experience with optical, structural, thermal, and fiber optic instrumentation.
• Python scripting and machining experience.
• Hands-on hardware experience and strong written and verbal communication skills.
