Lead Test Engineer – Fluids & Mechanical Systems

Location: El Segundo, United States. Applicants must be U.S. persons under ITAR requirements.

Annual salary: $135,000–$200,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own testing strategy, processes, hardware, and procedures for prototype qualification and production acceptance testing.
• Design and manage test rigs, fixtures, fluid loops, custom tooling, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
• Lead flow, pressure, leakage, proof, burst, endurance, environmental, and structural testing, including DO-160 and MIL-STD qualification campaigns.
• Analyze test data with uncertainty quantification, prepare test reports, and lead root cause analysis for failures.
• Support prototype development in the R&D laboratory and collaborate with design, production, and program management.
• Set technical direction, hire and develop engineers, manage performance, and represent test engineering cross-functionally.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing, or materials engineering.
• At least 5 years of test engineering experience spanning hydraulic or pneumatic fluids and mechanical or structural hardware.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or managing engineers and developing team capability.
• Hands-on experience designing test rigs and working with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, static mechanics, fluid measurement, uncertainty analysis, and test data reduction.
• Experience planning and executing qualification test campaigns.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline and people management experience.
• GD&T proficiency and experience with LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, or comparable test automation tools.
• Familiarity with DO-160 environmental testing and MIL-STD test methods.
• Experience testing servo valves, actuators, or high-pressure fluid systems.
• Siemens NX or comparable CAD experience and experience across multiple manufacturing sites.
