Staff Equipment Design Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Own the complete lifecycle of custom manufacturing equipment, tooling, and automation from greenfield concepts and engineering analysis through assembly, factory bring-up, and handoff.
• Design complex mechanisms, kinematic systems, fluid power equipment, and precision mechatronic systems.
• Select, size, and integrate actuators, sensors, and hardware with open- and closed-loop controls.
• Perform stress, deflection, tolerance stack, and GD&T analyses while providing DFM/DFA feedback.
• Manage procurement, oversee physical builds, commission equipment on the factory floor, and troubleshoot production automation.
• Develop internal design tools, standards, and workflows to scale equipment-building capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on equipment design experience.
• Deep proficiency in 2D/3D CAD, manufacturing layouts, assembly models, and fabrication-ready drawings.
• Strong knowledge of engineering mechanics, machine design, material selection, structural analysis, and GD&T.
• Experience commissioning automated machinery on the factory floor, with practical hand-tool and mechanical assembly skills.
• Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally; work visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with HVPS, EPS, or aerospace manufacturing.
• Siemens NX and familiarity with PLM, MES, and ERP systems.
• Hands-on programming and troubleshooting of PLCs, six-axis robots, gantries, or vision systems.
• Machining, welding, or hands-on prototyping experience.
• Experience scaling manufacturing lines from prototypes to full-rate production.
