Test Engineering & Metrology Manager (Aerospace & Defense)

Location: Chandler, Arizona, United States. The role requires U.S. citizenship under ITAR/EAR requirements, eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, regular presence in test bay and manufacturing environments, and approximately 10% domestic travel.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, hire, and develop test engineers and test technicians while providing hands-on technical support.
• Own NPD test strategy, plans, qualification matrices, schedules, and execution against system requirements, customer specifications, and DV/PV commitments.
• Direct development, qualification, first article, production acceptance, and lot acceptance testing for energetic components.
• Ensure compliance with explosive-safety siting, DoD explosives-safety standards, OSHA process-safety requirements, hazard classifications, quantity-distance limits, and security procedures.
• Manage test facilities, fixtures, equipment readiness, calibration, metrology controls, capacity planning, and test-space expansion.
• Maintain test-data integrity and reporting, apply statistical analysis, and translate results into design dispositions, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and design decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of progressively responsible test-engineering experience in energetics, ordnance, propulsion, aerospace, defense, or another highly regulated hardware environment, including 3+ years supervising or leading teams.
• Experience developing and executing qualification programs against military, aerospace, or equivalent specifications such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-331, AOP-series, or MIL-DTL-23659.
• Working knowledge of explosive safety, hazard classification, and DoD or equivalent safety requirements.
• Hands-on experience with statistical analysis of test data, plus engineering drafting or CAD software, ERP systems, and electrical circuit simulation tools such as PSpice.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance are required. The role also requires PPE use and completion of hazardous-materials, explosive-safety, security, and access-control training.

Nice to have

• Advanced engineering degree or active DoD security clearance.
• Qualification-testing experience with pyrotechnic actuators, initiators, detonators, propellants, airbags, or other energetic materials.
• Experience expanding physical test infrastructure, including facility siting, equipment acquisition, capital planning, and capacity expansion.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540 calibration requirements.
• Six Sigma, Lean, RCCA/8D, automated test systems, AI-enabled engineering documentation, PLM/PDM, or automated data-acquisition experience.
