TL;DR
Sr Test Engineer (Aerospace): Leading complex developmental, qualification, and flight testing for aircraft mission systems, sensors, avionics, communications, navigation, and surveillance equipment with an accent on test strategy, requirements-based verification, and RF/electronic test instrumentation. Focus on integrating aircraft systems, investigating anomalies, performing root-cause analysis, and coordinating flight-readiness and compliance reviews.

Location: Hagerstown, MD, United States. The role requires work in an office, laboratory, hangar, or offsite environment, with occasional travel.

Estimated starting salary: $113,428.57–$155,964.28 annually, plus performance-based annual incentive pay.

What you will do

  • Lead complex test projects and develop test strategies, schedules, risk plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Execute developmental, qualification, ground, and flight testing for mission systems, sensors, avionics, and aircraft platforms.
  • Configure and operate RF and electronic test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, data acquisition systems, transducers, and accelerometers.
  • Lead aircraft system integration, subsystem checkout, end-to-end verification, and anomaly investigations.
  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews, Safety Review Boards, Flight Readiness Reviews, and post-test data analysis.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, avionics, software, program management, and quality teams while mentoring junior test engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, with 10+ years of test engineering or related experience; a higher relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Expert knowledge of test and evaluation methodologies, engineering principles, requirements management, traceability, verification, and compliance documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency with RF and electronic test equipment and strong knowledge of aircraft avionics architectures and mission systems.
  • Experience developing, executing, and documenting ground and flight test plans, procedures, and requirements-based verification activities.
  • FAA Class III Medical Certificate and ability to complete Altitude Chamber training.
  • Active United States Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility and U.S. citizenship are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting DoD programs, ISR platforms, missionized aircraft, and airworthiness certification activities.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461 standards.
  • Experience with DOORS or Jama for requirements traceability and verification.
  • Lead test engineering or integration IPT experience across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of product and quality assurance practices, non-conformance reports, and manual or automated test execution.
