HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic

What you will do

• Maintain, modify, troubleshoot, repair, adjust, and operate air handling systems, air conditioning and heating units, fan coil units, heat pumps, chillers, exhaust fans, heat exchangers, pumps, and cooling towers.
• Maintain clinical, laboratory, research, and food-storage refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, ultra-low freezers, and environmental control rooms.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency response for facility equipment and controls.
• Maintain electronic and pneumatic controls, control air compressors, thermostat controls, building automation systems, and related facility systems.
• Provide recommendations and oversight for new system installations and modifications, and assist with training junior personnel.
• Use hand and power tools to repair or fabricate items from sketches, diagrams, and manufacturer specifications while following safety requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school diploma or related certification preferred.
• At least 2 years of HVAC mechanic experience required.
• EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification required.
• First Class Steam and First Class Refrigeration licenses from the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement must be obtained within two years of starting the position.
• Experience with facilities management, technical maintenance, facility-related equipment repair, CMMS, and basic Microsoft software proficiency.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding and stressful environment, lift or move up to 50 pounds, maintain predictable attendance, and comply with applicable safety and health regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience in a hospital or similar environment.
• Experience maintaining ultra-low freezers.
• Experience with campus, multi-building, or multi-story building environments.
• Working knowledge of building automation systems such as Metasys and systems including steam, chilled water, compressed gases, and heat exchangers.
