TL;DR
System Engineer III (Submarine Combat Systems): Integrating, testing, evaluating, and transitioning non-propulsion submarine and ship combat systems with an accent on weapons, launchers, sonar, radar, electronic warfare, and navigation interfaces. Focus on modernizing Navy systems, deriving testable requirements, conducting verification and interoperability assessments, and documenting complex trade studies and operational results.

Location: Newport, Rhode Island, United States; flexible for occasional telework, but must be local to the work location.

Projected annual compensation range: $85,175.25–$148,103.23.

What you will do

  • Integrate, test, evaluate, and transition enterprise and platform systems into operations.
  • Troubleshoot and recommend maintenance and enhancement solutions for submarine and ship combat systems, weapons, launchers, sensors, and associated interfaces.
  • Design or assess system modernization and capability expansions for emerging Navy needs.
  • Conduct functional, integration, system, factory acceptance, environmental, interoperability, reliability, and cybersecurity testing.
  • Develop CONOPS, performance specifications, interface documentation, operational procedures, reports, recommendation papers, and technical data packages.
  • Coordinate with engineering leads and teams on weapon-system upgrades, modernization activities, and platform verification testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with 5–7 years of experience, or equivalent experience; master’s degree with 3–5 years, PhD with 0–2 years, or high school diploma with 10+ years.
  • Experience with AN/BYG-1 PCS/SWFTS architecture and submarine combat control systems.
  • Knowledge of launcher systems, torpedoes, missiles, payload control, strike operations, and non-propulsion electronic systems.
  • Experience designing, troubleshooting, analyzing, reporting on, or testing complex systems in U.S. Navy submarine environments.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills, including submarine operational and firing craft procedures.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance are required.
