Air Vehicle Operator - Instructor (UAS): Operating and instructing personnel on LEA unmanned aircraft systems at a test and formal training unit with an accent on flight safety, mission planning, qualification training, and standardization. Focus on conducting IQT/MQT and evaluations, maintaining pilot and instructor currency, enforcing flight procedures, and supporting higher-tier, long-endurance missions.

Location: Sierra Vista, Arizona, at Fort Huachuca; relocation to the CONUS duty location is required and 10%–30% travel may include OCONUS assignments.

What you will do

  • Act as Pilot in Command of unmanned aircraft systems during flight training, test, production, and operational sorties.
  • Operate LEA Family of Systems aircraft safely and support mission coordination under varying airspace conditions.
  • Deliver Initial Qualification Training, Mission Qualification Training, Local Area Orientation, Difference Training, and other assigned instruction.
  • Develop lesson plans, training programs, schedules, manuals, evaluation guidelines, and educational materials.
  • Maintain pilot and instructor qualification and currency while enforcing flight, ground safety, training, and standardization procedures.
  • Conduct assigned evaluations, document trends, support audits and performance reviews, and maintain operational records.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship, a valid U.S. passport, and an active DoD Secret clearance or higher are required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • FAA Private Pilot License with Instrument rating, current FAA Class II Medical Certificate, at least 100 manned PIC flight hours, and at least 500 LEA Family of Systems PIC flight hours.
  • At least 2 years of LEA Family of Systems experience and aviation experience in a CONUS or OCONUS deployed location.
  • Current and qualified AVO-I status, or eligibility to upgrade to AVO-I within 3 months of starting.
  • Ability to meet DoD contractor deployment requirements, pass a Combat Readiness Course, work extended or shift hours, and complete background, security, and drug screening checks.

Nice to have

  • Flight instructor experience.
  • Current qualification as an AVO-I on the LEA Family of Systems.
  • Flight Test Engineer experience or Test Pilot School background.
