Mechanical CAD Designer (SolidWorks)

Location: Onsite in Washington, DC at the Naval Research Laboratory; U.S. citizenship required. Local travel may be required. Relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $100,000–$160,000 per year, depending on experience and location. Eligible for an annual performance bonus and potential equity or incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Design mechanical and electromechanical systems, assemblies, and components based on system requirements.
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, manufacturing documentation, specifications, and design analyses using SolidWorks.
• Design, assemble, and test prototypes; support environmental, vibration, thermal, and functional testing.
• Analyze failures, implement corrective actions, and troubleshoot complex mechanical systems.
• Integrate, fabricate, install, maintain, upgrade, and improve mechanical equipment, communications equipment, and antenna systems.
• Coordinate with customers, engineers, technicians, manufacturers, and suppliers on hardware implementation and technical support.

Requirements

• 7–10+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Experience with concept development, prototyping, testing, integration, manufacturing support, and sustainment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD/CAM software and experience creating technical drawings and documentation.
• Knowledge of materials, machining, fasteners, tolerance stack-ups, additive manufacturing, CNC machining, and injection molding.
• Hands-on experience with fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, tools, precision measurement equipment, and shop equipment; ability to lift or move 50 pounds.
• Active DoD Secret clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
