Business Reporter

Location: Washington, D.C., United States; onsite

Salary: $62,500–$65,000 per year, based on experience.

What you will do

• Write breaking news, enterprise stories, features, and analysis for The Hill’s print edition and website.
• Cover the intersection of business and politics across taxes, budgets, finance, healthcare, technology, energy, K Street, Congress, the administration, and state-level trends.
• Compile The Hill’s annual Top Lobbyists list.
• Track economic reports and news from the administration and Congress.
• Coordinate with reporters specializing in healthcare, technology, energy, and other beats.
• Work with editors to develop the business section and reach a broad readership.

Requirements

• Degree in journalism or a related field.
• Previous newsroom experience.
• Ability to produce error-free, clean journalism on tight timelines.
• Strong communication, prioritization, and news judgment skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Washington, D.C.
• Portfolio, work samples, resume, and a brief cover letter.

Nice to have

• Previous experience covering business and politics.
• Basic familiarity with Google Trends.
• SEO skills and real-time analytics experience.
