Reporter, Axios DC

Location: Remote within the United States; the role covers the Washington, D.C. area.

Starting salary: $60,000–$130,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and skills.

What you will do

• Author a daily newsletter with insights and scoops relevant to the Washington, D.C. audience.
• Cover local news, lifestyle, sports, events, and community issues.
• Develop sources, break news, and produce original conceptual scoops.
• Write conversationally in the Smart Brevity style.
• Use AI tools to improve reporting and newsletter production.
• Help build and evolve the local news product.

Requirements

• Experience covering news in Washington, D.C., with strong knowledge of the local market.
• Excellent existing sources and the ability to develop new ones.
• Proven ability to break news and create original scoops.
• Experience working in a fast-paced news environment and meeting deadlines.
• Curiosity about the local community and comfort bringing voice and personality to writing.
