Location: Washington, DC; on-site with daily reporting from the Capitol

Salary: $75,000–$80,000 per year

What you will do

• Produce a daily story about congressional leaders, their strategies, and messaging.
• Contribute to breaking news, medium- and long-term enterprise reports, newsletters, and Roll Call print coverage.
• Support legislative tracking, including markups, vote entry, major legislation, and nominations.
• Write and analyze annual CQ Vote Studies reports.
• Report on relationships among congressional and executive leaders in collaboration with the White House correspondent.
• Write member profiles and contribute to visual, podcast, webinar, and other storytelling formats.

Requirements

• 3+ years of reporting experience at a newspaper, news website, magazine, wire service, or other news outlet.
• Four published writing samples demonstrating reporting and writing ability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and mastery of AP style.
• Strong understanding of congressional procedure, history, and political culture.
• Ability to develop original coverage of relationships among Congress, the White House, the judicial branch, and lobbying efforts.
• Commitment to accuracy, objectivity, fairness, and editorial independence.

Nice to have

• Experience in Washington, DC, covering Congress for a subscription news outlet, wire service, or news bureau.
• College degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
