Litigation Specialist Liability (Insurance)

Location: Morristown, New Jersey, United States

Annual base salary: $85,600–$141,200, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards and a sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Handle specialty liability bodily injury and property damage claims throughout the claim life cycle.
• Investigate liability, damages, coverage, and recovery potential by working with policyholders, claimants, witnesses, experts, law enforcement, medical providers, agents, and brokers.
• Evaluate exposure, establish reserves, maintain claim files, and ensure timely and compliant claim handling.
• Negotiate settlements, develop creative resolution strategies, and manage claims within delegated authority.
• Manage litigated claims, including counsel selection, litigation planning, discovery, legal expenses, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, and trials.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, coaching, consulting, and training to claim professionals and business partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of business experience; a high school diploma or GED is required.
• At least 2 years of liability claim handling experience and/or comparable litigation claim experience.
• Advanced knowledge of claims and litigation, including coverage, liability, damages, commercial lines products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and applicable law.
• Strong negotiation, customer service, analytical thinking, judgment, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to independently evaluate severe and complex claims and make decisions on assigned cases.
• Insurance license acquisition and maintenance may be required; required licenses generally must be obtained within three months of starting.
