Industrial Hygiene Technician (Chemical Manufacturing)

Location: Remote, Ohio, United States; 40–60% domestic travel across the United States and Canada plus 10–15% international travel.

What you will do

• Conduct personal and area air monitoring for chemical vapors, dusts, mists, and other airborne contaminants.
• Perform noise dosimetry, sound-level measurements, heat-stress monitoring, ventilation assessments, and ergonomic evaluations.
• Calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and use industrial hygiene sampling equipment and direct-reading instruments.
• Identify occupational health hazards, verify exposure controls, and recommend practical improvements with operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams.
• Support industrial hygiene activities during maintenance outages, catalyst changeouts, vessel entry, contractor projects, and other non-routine work.
• Maintain exposure-monitoring databases and support employee notifications, monitoring reports, regulatory documentation, occupational health programs, training, and exposure-related investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of industrial hygiene, occupational health, or EHS experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, OSHA PELs, and ACGIH TLVs.
• Ability to work around process equipment, noise, heat, confined spaces, chemical handling activities, and outdoor conditions while wearing required PPE and respirators.
• Working knowledge of respiratory protection, hearing conservation, heat-stress prevention, hazard communication, and medical surveillance programs.
• Willingness to obtain or actively pursue the CIH designation and travel routinely to manufacturing and research facilities.

Nice to have

• Industrial chemical industry or oil and gas refinery experience.
• Experience using industrial hygiene sampling equipment and direct-reading instrumentation.
• Formal health and safety training.
